Saturday we attended J’s first concert, a free outdoors one in Prospect Park’s bandshell in Brooklyn. We were there with Lisa and Margot and Karey, and J and Margot jumped around together and held hands walking off among the revelers together. It was perfect because They Might Be Giants (also from Brooklyn) were the first band Lisa and I ever saw together, and long one of our favorites. Now they have branched out into children’s music, ABCs, 123s, etc. At the concert little bubble potions were passed out in tiny plastic bottles, so that was fun too.

J really seemed to respond to the atmosphere. He sat on the grass with us, clapped with everyone, seemed to play an imaginary keyboard along Daddy’s legs while singing to himself (his lyrics), and danced a little too. He looked towards the stage from time to time too, although it was too far away to be interesting for long. I’m noticing he’s more attuned to music; the other day in the kitchen we were dancing to a fast song, and then a slower one came on the radio, and he slowed his steps and told me he was dancing “slowlier” to the music. I reported this to Chris; we like any sign that our child’s musical, though really aren’t all children?
